ABOUT THE WORLD WIDE WEB

The World-Wide Web is a concept that has revolutionized the Internet by providing the technology of an attractive, navigable interface to a wealth of information. Technically, the WWW system is a `network of information servers' or a `distributed hypermedia system'.

During the early 1990s, the WWW was designed by Tim Berners Lee and Robert Cailliau at Geneva's European Laboratory for Particle Physics ( CERN), to provide network access to High Energy Physics research information. Since then, the WWW has expanded world-wide and allows access to a vast collection of resources.

The current and official World-Wide Web home page is managed by the World Wide Web(W3) Consortium

The World-Wide Web Consortium provides excellent information on creating and posting your own Web pages. Also available on-line is a beginner's guide to HTML and other WWW- related documents.
