Rob is a 27 year old sports car racer who just finished his third full year of racing. In 1998 Rob moved up to the SCCA's Touring 2 class with a Camaro Z-28 sponsored by Servus Financial Corporation, Kumho Tires, and Red Line Oil. The races were held at tracks all over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic area including Lime Rock, Charlotte, Summit Point, Nelson Ledges, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and Pocono. This was a big step up for Rob as the competition is a lot stronger and he would be visiting several tracks for the first time. The goal of qualifying and receiving an invitation to the annual SCCA National Championship Run-offs, held at Mid-Ohio in October, was achieved. At the runoffs he held the provisional pole position until the last day of qualifying, eventually qualifying 4th for the race. Rob finished the race in 6th place after having been shoved off the track and sent back to 19th place on the first lap, setting a new lap record while moving up through the field. At the annual SCCA convention in San Diego, Rob was awarded the Jim Kimberly Cup given to the "Most Improved Driver." Past winners include Roger Penske, Mark Donohue, Peter Revson, and Jim Hall among many other National Champions.
During the 1997 season, Rob drove a Mazda RX-7 in the tough ITS class in the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series (MARRS), where entries often exceed 30 cars. Rob was able to score more MARRS championship points that any other driver due to his four wins and with a top three finish in every race. Highlights of the season also include sitting on the pole three times and setting track records at Summit Point and Connellsville. Rob also ran races at Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, and Pocono. Rob and a fellow racer won their class in the four-hour endurance race at Summit Point in September 1997. At the year ending awards banquet he was awarded the Paul Norair Trophy given each year to the "Driver of the Year." The list of previous winners includes some very famous names in road racing.
In 1996, Rob ran his first full season of racing in ITA with a Mazda RX-3. Similar to ITS, ITA is a highly competitive class which often sees more than 30 cars competing in a race. He showed promise immediately, winning the first race of the season and accumulating seven top-five finishes in eight races entered. This consistency resulted in Rob taking third place in the MARRS championship.
When not racing, Rob works for Solect Technology Group, and lives in Arlington, Virginia. He holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Virginia and Bachelors Degree from Virginia Tech. Both Degrees were earned with honors.
