Be sure Squeak is installed successfully on your computer. It will take about 30 seconds for the project to load for a fast connection (up to 10 minutes for a slow modem connection). Wait until you see an orange flap at the lower left labeled Navigation. Click the flap to open and close it and access some neat tools. If you click Escape Browser, you will have more space. Click Browser Reentry to get back your Browser controls.
Freefall: Norbert and Zot are waiting in an elevator for you to make them weightless. If you wany to play first, then follow the Quick Start instructions along the left side. If you want more direction and background, then go to the web book on the right. You may wish to review the concepts of position, velocity, acceleration, mass and force. However you start, be sure you complete the explorations near the end of the book and try to do the challenges. You will find it useful to plot data to understand weightlessness. Scientists often plot data to help them understand.
Elevator: In this activity, you will "design" the elevator so that it gets to the lobby as soon as possible while Norbert and Zot remain comfortable. Again, you will find it useful to plot data to pick the acceleration that achieves your design goal. Engineers often plot data to help them with the design process.
Plotting Tool: Review plotting data. If you are already in the freefall activity, just click the browser back button to return to this page.
Playing Guide: You must click Escape Browser and your resolution must be set at 600x800 to view this properly. Watch this recording of how to use Squeak to make the objects on the page perform for you. Then try the last Squeak freefall challenge where you modify the project.
